Why do survey respondents give unreliable answers? Do survey respondents even produce real opinions? Research has provided a series of answers to those questions. In this video I discuss theories of motivated reasoning, dual-processing models of cognition, Lodge and Taber’s Rationalizing Voter Theory, and Zaller’s Receive-Accept-Sample model of cognition.
